I have a friend, a darn good friend – like a brother really – who related this excerpt from an email conversation with a young lady; follow along and you’ll get the gist:
Lady: Ok…I have to apologize…. I did not make it to the [place] last night…. Hopefully you were not run over by a vehicle last night on your walk
Friend: Oh sure, you didn’t make it and all you can give me is Hope? 😉
Lady: LOL…. Hope is what the nation is built upon. Hope is what every American is using to get through each and every day, hope is also what other nations are watching us do to succeed. Hope is an integral part of the American patchwork quilt. Hope is everything 🙂 So did you want more than just hope?? <grin>
Friend: You have never waxed philosophical before. Very good, but I would make a few very tiny distinctions – almost not worth mentioning….
Work is what the nation is built upon. Faith is what every wise American is using to get through each and every day. Envy is the lens through which other nations are watching us as we succeed. Work is an integral part of the American patchwork quilt. Faith is everything 🙂
Once again, very minor distinctions, but you get the idea.
As for what I want: Work, Faith and Commitment. Hope is for gamblers and poor people who play the lotto. 🙂
As you can tell he is grounded, principled, reverent, hard working, eloquent and has a decent sense of humor. You can also tell why he has a hard time landing dates…
