Rounding the corner to St Patrick’s Day, I sent a text message to a Pard of mine:
“He who breaks the law goes back to the House of Pain”
“He who breaks the law goes back to the House of Pain”
It’s quoted from The Island of Doctor Moreau (1977) but it is also a reference to a guilty pleasure song ‘Top of the Morning to You*” by House of Pain which always seems to get stuck in my head this time of year.
Shortly after which I get a call from my Pard saying he’s IN the House of Pain.
Me: How’s that?
Him: I broke the Unwritten Commandment
Me: Which is?
Him: ‘Thou Shalt Not Make an Omelet with Week Old Haggis, Scotch Bonnet Sauce and Cactus Salsa”
After hearing that, it’s not too hard to understand why the Unwritten Commandment is unwritten and why my Pard is in the House of Pain.
Just another day in paradise.
[* Trivia Note: The traditional response to the greeting of “Top of the morning to you” is “And the rest of the day to you”.
